Classical Love

It’s a short journey

From now to eternity;

But you will have to say “I Do” first

Not in the presence of a minister

Or a saffron clad old priest.

Instead head to Venus’ temple

And promise an eternity.

Then your journey to a world will begin

Where no ships would march to Troy

And Antony would ever be together

With the glorious Cleopatra.

An eternity where Hercules is a happy man

And Cassandra doesn’t die of insanity.

A world where Orpheus doesn’t stop

And turn to take a look at Eurydice

Who will dutifully follow him back to earth.

A world where Spartans are known

For their art of lovemaking.

A world of Classical Love.
