My Astronaut Lover

He was an Astronaut

drifting in space

looking for the stars and

some sign of life.

I, I was a dead planet

glowing with borrowed light

but shining all the same.

And he came to me

Like an explorer

In search of life.

But I was not Gaia,

Only rocks and pebbles

With a million years history

of dead surface.

He tried, I don’t blame,

But my carbon was not oxygen

And my silence was not life.

So he went back,

Leaving behind a flag

As a remnant of his landing

And I stayed here,

In my orbit

Waiting for another astronaut

Waiting for another flag.

  1. Beautiful! The imagery is magnificent, you have so cleverly compared the different things showing your meaning perfectly. Really enjoyed this, I may use the idea to inspire a poem of my own if you don’t mind 😊
